The Secrets to Living Long and Well with Dan Buettner

hosted by Rich Roll

Dan Buettner is a longevity expert, world explorer, and has been featured on some of the most reputable media outlets. Dan Buettner is the founder of Blue Zone Projects, which is a community improvement initiative with the goal of helping people live longer. This is done with community transformation programs that improve productivity, lower healthcare costs, and are known to be great places to reside, work, and enjoy life. The heart of the beach volleyball world has been part of the Blue Zone Project for many years now. This includes Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Manhattan Beach. These cities are prioritizing policies that make the healthy choice the easy choice. This includes providing easier access to grocery stores, providing bike lanes with direct access to beaches and parks, and prioritizing healthy food in the lunch selection at schools.

Our favorite takeaway from this podcast is the somewhat seamless transition to a healthier community by changing the environment rather than the difficult route of changing individuals habits. Just the simple idea of changing the order of which food is presented to our youth in the public schools has an impact on the food they select. Changing the environment is far easier with much more successful outcomes which maintains the ability to make your own choices that will lead you into a healthier lifestyle.
